Beauty Q & A

We’re going to do something a little different today! That’s always fun! For about two or three weeks I’ve been seeing this type of post floating around the “blogasphere”. First, I saw it from Chrissy at Granola & Grace‘s site. (You all remember Chrissy, right?! We’ve talked about her before. She is SUCH a sweetheart!) I thought it was such a cool idea! Then I saw it pop up a few more places and, finally, I caught it on Penny from Frugal Fashion Shopper. After seeing Penny’s I thought, this is just too fun, I’m getting in on this. I’ve always loved filling out these Q & A lists and love reading other people’s. I find it so interesting seeing what other people do and use and think. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you use and how your routine differs from mine! I’d love to hear from you!

1. Eyelash curler – yes or no?

Absolutely! I notice a big difference in how my mascara goes on if I don’t use it.

2. Favorite nail shade?

Nada. I almost never paint my fingernails. They are absolutely horrendous! Honestly, I have the worst nails in the world. They break or split daily and are very severely ridged. I take a Hair, Skin & Nails supplement. I try to eat a lot of gelatin. Nothing seems to help. Painting them is pointless. I do, however, keep my toenails painted during the Spring & Summer. (Even though they’re weird, too!) I don’t have a favorite shade. I just pick up whatever strikes my fancy at the Dollar Store. Right now I’m wearing Wet & Wild Fastdry in Gray’s Anatomy. (Yep. That’s the name!)

3. Favorite lipstick shade?

My ever-growing Milani lipstick collection

Anything Milani! I am absolutely obsessed with Milani lipsticks at the moment. (Actually all Milani makeup) I almost never wear one shade at a time, either. I usually layer several shades at a time for a “custom” shade. This also helps your lipstick to wear down better so your lips don’t end up looking completely bare. My favorite layering shades at the moment are Plumrose, Rose Femme and Blushing Beauty. During the Fall and Winter I was using Brandy Berry and Velvet Merlot.

4. Blow or air dry your hair?

My hair is extremely thin and fine so blow drying is almost mandatory. I blow dry with my head upside down until my hair is about 80 – 90% dry, then stand upright and style it into place.

5. Artificial nails: yes or no?

No. Never. I tried the ones you do yourself in my 20’s and they were always a disaster and I can’t afford to keep up with salon ones, so I don’t bother.

6. Foundation: yes or no?

Absolutely positively always! The thought of going out without foundation horrifies me! First, I have a bit of rosacea, so my skin has a bit of redness and doesn’t look great without it. But, also, when I was in college, someone very close to me came to visit. I wasn’t wearing make up and they told me I looked horrible. That made a huge impression on me and I’ve been a make-up girl ever since! I’ve recently started wearing Milani 2-in-1 foundation 00A Porcelain. I am absolutely in love with it! It blends with my skin perfectly and feels wonderful on! It’s as close to flawless as I’ve personally ever felt.

7. Hair up or down?

Ha ha! Well, considering how short my hair is, there aren’t a lot of options there. It just is what it is.

8. Bar of soap or Body wash?

Body wash. Usually I use St. Ives Soothing Oatmeal and Shea Butter.

9. Bath or shower?

Baths! I LOVE baths! I use Village Naturals Aches & Pains Relief soaking salts. The salts and the hot water give me a lot of relief for my fibro and back pain. I usually soak for a half hour – 45 minutes and always take a book with me to catch a bit of reading time, as well! I wash my hair separately in the sink. It’s very rare that I take an actual shower.

10. Favorite body lotion?

My favorite lotion is actually the one I told you about several posts back that I make myself from coconut oil and lavender. It makes my skin feel heavenly and is so easy and inexpensive to throw together. I, also, like that I know exactly what is in it.

11. Do you wear perfume? And if so, what is your favorite?

I do wear perfume – everyday. I have two favorites – Victoria’s Secret’s Rapture and Marc Jacob’s Daisy. The Rapture I’ve worn for over 20 years and, unfortunately, Victoria’s Secret is now discontinuing it. I’m very particular about my scents so I’ve been searching for something new to take its place. Marc Jacob’s Daisy was a gift several birthdays ago from my daughter. I love it, but it feels very Spring/Summer-y to me, so that’s about the only time I pull it out.

12. Do  you shave your legs every day?

Not every day – every other day.

13. Favorite lip balm?

Normally I don’t use a lip balm at all. My lips really don’t get that dry. However, a peppermint flavored lip balm came in a box of Celestial Seasonings peppermint tea that I bought and I’ve been using it just at bedtime.

14. How old were you when you started using makeup?

I don’t remember exactly, but I want to say 13. For some reason that feels right. My mom was big on makeup so I can’t imagine her keeping us from wearing it for too long. So, that’s my educated guess.

Well, this was fun! Now let me hear from you! What’s in your make-up bag?!

Until We Meet Again!

    1. I know, isn’t it fun finding out what others do – comparing notes, so to speak?! You’re right, the typing is no friend to our nails, but mine have just been doomed from the start! Oh, well, we all have our weak spots! 🙂

  1. This is to much fun. I enjoyed reading everything and i didn’t know that Penny did one. I will have to go and find it. I’ve been meaning to try your coconut and lavender oil recipe.

    1. Aren’t these things great?! Yes, by all means read Penny’s! I really enjoyed hers! Let me know when you try the coconut oil and lavender lotion. I’d love to know what you think!

  2. Awww, thanks Ronnie. You are a true encourager. 🙂 And this was so fun to see what you wrote about in your beauty routine! 🙂 I’m with you on the fine hair…I take collagen everyday to help but have only seen changes in my eyebrows and eyelashes – not complaining I’ll take it! Is it crazy that I’ve not heard of Milani? I’ve still so much to learn…Have a blessed day Ronnie!

    1. You know I would have never guessed you had fine hair, Chrissy! It looks so thick and full! I’ve been taking a skin, hair and nail supplement, but was unimpressed. Then just a week ago I watched a YouTube video by a woman with similar issues and have begun following her routine. So now I take collagen and Niacin and I have switched my shampoo to a sulfate free one. We shall see!
Ahhhh! You have to try Milani! I’m fast becoming a major addict! The best place to get them is Wal-mart. They carry the largest selection and they by far have the best prices. And they’re so inexpensive you can easily play around with things. Their line seems to be constantly growing, as well!
